The two-hour master class begins with innovative stretches followed by a movement meditation. Warming-up in this way safely and effectively opens all the joints of the body, preparing it for a deeper experience of the traditional yoga postures that will end the class. Gradual progression, self-exploration, and personal creativity is encouraged.
The seventy-five minute solo improvisational dance is a powerful enactment of the universal cycle of birth/life/death. Although abstract in style, it has a narrative undertone that dramatically depicts the ruination of a world which has become hopelessly imbalanced.
Sarah Brumgart is a master teacher and performer in both yoga and dance. Known for her virtuosic marathon dances, she attributes her "astonishing flexibility" (Austin American-Statesman) and "tremendous body control and endurance" (The Boston Herald) primarily to her yoga training. She is founder of the Yoga/Dance Temple based in Austin, TX.
"...she resembled a temple dancer, moving head, shoulders, and wrists, with unerring rhythm and feminine seductiveness...As the movement and music accelerated, she erupted into leaps and turns, dancing full out for the first time. The effect was riveting...Watching Brumgart perform is like watching a religious ritual. Onstage she enters a trance-like state, completely absorbed in her concentration." Dance Magazine
